jonny baker and i (aka PROOST) are relaunching Proost later this year. one of the things we are looking to put on our new download site is the work of young and unknown creatives, (‘UNUSUAL SUSPECTS‘). below is the description of what kind of people we are looking for… if you know anyone who fits the bill, get this information to them.

Are you under 25 years old?

Are you a creative person in need of an outlet?

Proost is looking for unknown creatives to produce work for its new download site.
The new site will produce monthly downloads of creative resources for youth groups,
churches and individuals.

Proost produces 3 types of downloadable resource… AUDIO VISUAL, RECORDED MUSIC and BOOKS.
We are looking for young unknown poets, writers, illustrators, animators, film makers, music producers, fine artists, cartoonists etc. to present us with their ideas for media for our download site. If we like the idea, then you will be asked to make your piece of work. maybe a short film, a set of poems meditations or cartoons, a set of illustrations or music tracks…
The idea/s you present to us will be geared towards helping people in their spiritual journey. They will have an earthy reality to them not a churchy religiousness

If your work is selected to go on the site, you will be paid on a royalty basis.

There will also be a really great prize for the best piece of work produced by an UNUSUAL SUSPECT…
watch this space for more details on that one!

At Greenbelt 2007 Proost will be relaunching its website and we will use the event to promote and
showcase the UNUSUAL SUSPECTS.

Send an outline of your ideas and a brief biography to info@proost.co.uk
Visit our current website at proost.co.uk

PROOST, inspiring new resources that fuel faith.

  1. Interesting idea – why the age limit though? I would have thought there was a market for more “seasoned” creatives.

  2. richard we’re very open to content for proost. so feel free to submit any ideas for that as we are shifting to downloadable content from this coming summer. unusual suspects is a way to try and encourage the young uns!

  3. hi richard… i was thinking of you when me and jonny discussed age limits. you are one of many creatives who could have much to offer. as jonny says, the ‘unusual suspects’ is a specific thing for the finding and encouragement of young talent. you are welcome to submit stuff, but i’m afraid there’ll be no possibility of a prize for you, just royalties! 😦 or is it 🙂

  4. Thanks for comments.

A couple of further questions about copyright and so forth.

    – What happens about ownership and copyright of material submitted? Creative Commons? Retained by creator\author or sold to Proost?

    – How does the royalties system work? Is it a percentage of sale price?

I’m a bit new to this way of doing things. If you have any documents about how it all works that would be useful.

    Thanks again
    Richard

  5. we haven’t worked it out yet! that’s in our plan for march… will let you know. usually any publsihing thing in a royalty has a publsiher’s share and artist’s share. all downloads will basically have a minimal processing cost but then be royalty to be shared. w.r.t. ownership of material, we register music with mcps as it protects the artists but we hold it lightly. if anyone wanted their tracks back to do something with that would of course be fine. with audio visual it might be different – we’ll explore it, but again we totally respect the artists as creators of the material and want to support their art rather than control it… anyway watch this space on that. we’re working all this through in the next few months. hope we make it!

  7. Know what, I am nearly 50 and still don’t feel I have ever found a place that accepts the creativity I have to offer. I hope that when I am over 70 I will still have the heart, mind and inspiration of a young un, but until parts of the church get out of its ‘yoof’ obsession I feel I will never have the encouragement you wish to lavish on others and never feel that what I have to offer is good enough just because I am no longer young.

  8. hey john. good to hear from you… the unusual suspects thing is specific to an age group. however we are looking for creatives of all ages to input to the proost site. if you have something in mind i would love to know… i don’t believe for one second that youth has the edge on creativity in any way… for goodness sake, i’m your age and still struggling away doing my thing and wanting to encourage anyone who wants to be encouraged to do theirs! send some stuff in!

  11. I would love to be involved with this… 2 queries though: – it this venture *inclusive* of 25-year olds (I’ve just had my birthday last week) and, is this a UK-only based project? I’m an illustrator/ designer from Australia & would like to share “visual prayers” with the webberverse… but don’t know then how royalties would work… cheers…
